Slow conversion APE-->WAV - MP3 to WAV converter 2.71 seems slow

I have a 3GHz processor and the program seems to eat all my CPU. I can't even log in if the screen saver has locked my computer. A conversion of a 5-minute long song takes more than 5 minutes. Is this program supposed to be this slow? Is there anything I can do? Can you at least solve the problem dealing with the program stealing all my CPU?

We work on new multithreaded engine. Current version of Monkey's Audio decoder really slow, but this is third-party code Sad
