volume doesnt work, and other volumes kill the program

my recorder's volume slider doesnt work...and if i use a volume from another application during the recording being open, such as musicmatch, or media center, or windows volume control, it causes the recorder to be eliminated, what can i do....i didnt buy this thing to get this type of behavior, thanks guys.
