Exporting Sound Files

I am currently evaluating MCRS as a full-time solution for continuous, multi-channel recording.

I was wondering if it was possible to export sound files containing events that occurred between two given times. For example, MCRS is continuously recording VHF radio transmissions at a particular frequency. I can go back to the MCRS Recordings Browser to see a list of files, but I can only export one at a time. Events sometimes occur over two files, so I need to manually splice them together, extract the event, and figure out (from the time the first file started) when the event began. This is a time-consuming process, and it would be great if you could make it easy.

The easiest way to implement this would be to allow multiple recordings to be spliced together in the MCRS Recordings browser, and exported under one file name. (Bonus: It would be great if the file were time-stamped with the time the first file was recorded.)

I'm not the only person who has needed a feature like this [link].

I'd appreciate any advice you might have to offer. Am I simply missing a feature/setting that is already in the software?

We already working on the next version, so i cannot guarantee that all new suggestions will be implemented soon. Recordings splicing is not so dufficult, so I think this fearue may be added in the upcoming version.

Thanks for the quick reply. As the other user (see link in my last post) mentioned, the ability to easily export events happening between two times will open your product to many new markets. There is simply no other software out there that can perform this task in one easy step.

I understand that it can be difficult to predict when a software product will be released. However, it would really help my project if you could provide an approximate time frame for the release. Will the new version be released over the summer, or is it still several months away from release?

Thank you.

We have two ways to implement this feature:

- add it to the current version (fast), but rewrite code for new version later.
- add it to the new version (slow), but wait while it will be ready

So, I can not predict estimated release date :(

Thank you for the reply. It's great to see a company that listens to potential customers as well as you do. I think I've figured out a way to get by with the current version until you beef up the export features in future releases. However, there are two obstacles that you might be able to change that would make my workflow much easier.

1. There is an option to filter records by date in the MCRS Recordings Browser. Would it be possible to add another filter to allow the user to narrow the list of recordings down by time as well? I might have hundreds of files over multiple channels generated every hour using VOX; many transmissions are very brief and enclosed in their own file.

2. There does not appear to be an easy way to export multiple files. It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to change the save function to work with multiple files. Again, I will have 50-300 files to export at a time. I am able to select the files, but it only exports them one at a time. Is there a workaround for this?

Finally, would you mind clarifying where the timestamp is stored in the mp3 and/or wav files generated by MCRS? I looked in the metadata but did not see a timestamp besides that included in the filename.

Thank you.
