VQF is a new music compression format. Those files are smaller than MP3 files, but they need a little more power to play, and a lot more power to encode. The sound quality of a VQF file is not better nor worse than a MP3 file, it is just different. They are decoded just as fast as MP3 files are, encoding was extremely slow. Yamaha marketed TwinVQ as an alternative to MP3, but the format never became very popular. As other MP3 alternatives emerged, TwinVQ quickly became obsolete. In this regard, it would be nice to have software to convert VQF into the more common audio formats such as MP3 or M4A.
