WavPack is a completely open format for lossless audio compression, high-quality lossy compression and a unique hybrid mode. Despite the fact that the technology is based on a previous version of WavPack, the new version 4 has been designed to offer unparalleled performance and functionality. This format is completely open and does not yield to Monkey's Audio, and in some points superior to him. This format allows you to easily compress and restore 8, 16, 24 and 32-bit audio files. It also supports multichannel audio streams and high sampling rates.

In the default mode (lossless) WavPack acts like WinZip archiver for audio files. The compression ratio depends on the source material, but typically ranges from 30% to 70%.

The hybrid mode provides all the advantages of lossless compression with an additional bonus. Instead of creating one file, this mode creates both a relatively small, high-quality lossy file that can be used as an independent and "correction" file that provides a full recovery, "lossless".
